CURRENTLY SEEKING EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Position Title:    Director
Type:                Part-time, no benefits
Location:          Red Wing, Minnesota
Schedule:          20 hours/week during shelter operating season (approx. November 1 – March 31)
                        10 hours/week during remaining year (approx. April 1 – October 31)
Pay Rate:          $450/week during shelter operating season
                        $250/week during remainder of year
Summary:         Hope & Harbor is seeking a new leader to oversee operations of the organization’s seasonal homeless shelter. The Director is responsible for overall management and supervision of the shelter, including supervision of staff and volunteers, developing and managing the budget, building and maintaining relationships with partner organizations, seeking and reporting on grants, and developing and implementing shelter policies and procedures. The first year is a co-director position, where the new director will work alongside the current director during the coming season. The new director will then serve as the organization’s sole director after the transition is complete.
About Us:         Hope & Harbor is a nonprofit organization that operates a homeless shelter in Red Wing, Minnesota. The seasonal shelter serves adults and operates during the coldest months, typically November through March. We partner with local churches who host the shelter on a rotating basis, typically two weeks at a time. The shelter is overnight only and is not open during the day. The organization pays for 2 staff to stay overnight with guests. Volunteers provide additional support, including meal preparation and hosting. The organization is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors.
Requirements:  Experience working with individuals who are experiencing homelessness
                        Extensive organizational skills and an ability to handle multiple tasks
                        Excellent communication skills to interact with guests, staff, volunteers, partners, donors, funders, local officials, and other stakeholders
                        Strong writing skills to prepare funding applications and prepare grant reports
                        Understanding of budgeting and financial oversight

Director Task List
Management & Operations (65%)
  • Provide financial oversight
    • Develop and monitor program budget
    • Prepare & submit payroll to accountant
    • Track organizational expenses and income
    • Reconcile checking account
    • Prepare financial statements
  • Oversee staff and volunteers
    • Hire seasonal staff
    • Recruit volunteers
    • Maintain Sign Up Genius account for volunteer registration and tracking
    • Prepare and oversee staff/volunteer schedule, make sure all shifts are covered
    • Conduct training of staff and volunteers
  • Direct shelter operations
    • Prepare and confirm schedule of host church locations
    • Prepare and distribute season information packets for stakeholders
    • Review inventory and purchase supplies
    • Serve as contact for each host site
    • Open shelter each evening, either yourself or another staff/volunteer who is trained
    • Complete background checks on guests
    • Oversee site rotation, including trailer for moving
    • Resolve conflicts while shelter is open, and communicate with volunteers, guests, advocates, and law enforcement each evening to be aware of any issues/concerns
    • Prepare for opening and closing of season
  • Support Board of Directors
    • Schedule and attend meetings
    • Prepare agendas and minutes
    • Follow through with recommendations
Outreach & Fund Development (30%)
  • Fundraising
    • Prepare annual fundraising plan
    • Research and write grants, prepare grant reports as required
    • Seek corporate and individual donors, maintain donor relationships
  • Outreach
    • Keep stakeholders/partners informed about shelter and its location throughout season
    • Present at outreach events and in front of elected bodies to promote/support mission
    • Represent organization at meetings with collaborative partners (ie, Homeless Response Team)
    • Maintain organization’s website and social media platforms
Other Duties as Assigned (5%)

SHELTER ADVOCATES (check back later)
To oversee the operations of the shelter, problem solve situations as they arise, welcome and orientate new guests as they arrive, coordinating minimal housekeeping, overseeing weekly programing, and provide compassion and advocacy to our guests. This position is seasonal full or part-time (Nov-Mar).
